London here I come!

Finally! I am spending the week-end in London and I really need it because lately at work is a hell.

I am going to see an amazing show "30 years of Japanese fashion", at the Barbican Art Gallery (it's there until 6th of February so if you have the chance...) and I really can't wait.

I actually decided to go in November: I discovered the show through twitter, I thought "Oh I so want to go!!" and the same day I received a mail from Eurostar with special offers for January: 79 euros return. I call it destiny, what do you think?

So I convinced my friend Mari (the lovely owner of the green flats in the "Life in technicolor" picture of this post, apparently we are the London duo) to come with me and finally the time has come. I am leaving Saturday morning and I'll be back next Monday, yuhu!

But of course, as always when I leave, there is a big issue.
The luggage issue.
Oh yes, you know what I mean.

A week-end in London means that you're basically going to eat in nice restaurants (Korean, wait for me!!), meet friends, visit cool places and night clubs. But you're also walking all day long for savage shopping and sight-seeing (mmmmh.... not sure about this one....). And we're going to leave the B&B in the morning and come back at night. So no change of clothes.

So here's the dilemma: What am I going to bring? Something comfortable but also nice enough to wear for a drink... and the shoes, oh the shoes! I have to walk all day long but I'm not going to wear Converse, NO WAY!

So in the end do you know what's going to happen? I will put a couple of dresses in the luggage and three different buttoned black cardigans to put over (one little in cotton, one long in cotton and one little in wool.... because you know, you never know what's the weather...); I will bring ten different pair of shoes and don't know how many trousers, skirts and shirts because "you never know what the mood will be that day". And let's not talk about make-up. And lotions. The hair-drier and the iron....
I also know that I am going to bring two coats... Oh yes, I know myself, I know what's going to happen.

And you know the worse part? I am traveling with the train so I've got no luggage size and weight limit! I am screwed.

I will leave with my 60 liters backpack and a full big trolley in the end, I know. For two days. Please don't let my mom know...

At least, I still have got 5 days to think where I am going to put all the stuff I'll buy.
Can always buy a new trolley there, ah-ah!

Gotta go now, I won't have much time tomorrow and friday (and I'll maybe come back to the blog on monday or even tuesday :-( ) so I have to start to think about the luggage list... eh eh eh...

Kiss

Al

PS: and don't look at me like that: I know that EXACTLY the same thing happens to each of you when you go to holiday!

  1. Oh dear I know all about luggage dilemmas. When I travelled to Dubai this summer I spent so much time packing for my suitcase to not arrive!! Enjoy your well deserved time in London. I was there in June and loved the National Portrait Gallery xx

  2. Enjoy London! Haha I also took the Eurostar from London to Paris and back when I went to Europe 2.5 years ago. The "no luggage limit" thing is great!

  5. @Meagan: ahahah really?? How was it in Dubai? I was in London too in June, when were you there? I've never been to the Portrait Gallery and I don't think I'll have time this week-end (we have a tight schedule) but I'll surely go next time: I try to go to London as often as possible ;-)

@Lisa: Hello!! I do love Eurostar, I think it's the most comfortable train I've ever took!(well no, maybe Shinkansen is the most but anyway...) You can sleep so well on those soft chairs... ahahah!

@Kazuko: I told you, if you told me before I would have brought you with us ;-)I will take many pictures, promise, and I'll try to take a lot at the Japanese fashion show. I would like to write a post on it so stay tuned! :D

And I am very happy I made you smile! You always make me smile with your comments in the morning so I'm glad I paid back the favour ;-)

@Zarna: Glad to know I'm not the only one :D

I'm so happy that you'll let me draw you and talk about you! You'll have to be patient for the drawing though: I'll try to make it as better as I can so it will take some time!

A kiss to you all!! Maybe you all fit in my luggage too... wanna come??

  7. Oh my gosh, Dubai, where do I begin? Crazy, other worldly, felt like the Hollywood of the middle east, men in white dishdashes smoking shisha at starbucks. I was in London around the 11th, 12th of June. I stayed right near Oxford Circus.

  8. Dubai sounds completely like the kind of places that leave me a bit there standing like a stupid, looking around and thinking "oh my.. what should I think of this place???" but maybe for this reason it attracts me a lot, it makes me curious to see it... Maybe one day I'll go (lovely Kazuko of http://kazucopy.wordpress.com/ lives there too!)

The 11th I was in London as well! :D

  12. Have some fun!! One of best part of living in Europe in my opinion is being able to travel to different countries so easily!

  13. @Priscella: Thanks! I already answered on your blog :-)

@Photodiarist: Indeed, it's the best of Europe!! Belgium is amazing because it is in the middle of everywhere: I can reach Paris and London with 1 hour and a half of train! In Europe we also have this low cost airline called Ryanair, and everybody now is able to fly and travel a lot thanks to that. I myself can go to Italy and see my parents at least every two months without any problem. If you're lucky with the offers you may fly for 5 or 10 euros! You have very strict baggage limits though :-(

I know it's super freezing here too again since two days ago :-(
I looked at the forecasts and in London it seems slightly warmer than here... let's hope for good (otherwise I will HAVE TO stay in warm places... namely shops... and japanese restaurants... :D)

    A big kiss!
