I'm just back from my first Pilates lesson and... WOOOOOW
Ok, ok I know... What's the news??
Everybody already knows it, it has been considered the top workout from celebs for like 10 years now and it's well established (at least on the kind of magazines that I like to read... you know... Vogue, Elle... ahah) that it's one of the most effective work outs for women.
My mother always tells me: "you always arrive after the firework show ended" (as you can imagine, my mother meant that I am always late, in all meanings possible... ahhh she's always soooo nice to me).
It's not only that I arrive after the firework show ended, the fact is that I've always been skeptic about Pilates... and Yoga... and Power Yoga. Stuff like that.
I'm an old fashioned (and a bit masochistic) girl: you want to lose weight? STARVE! RUN! Wanna put some muscles on? LIFT WEIGHTS FOR TWO HOURS A DAY!
Of course thinking in this way the feeling was that I had to put too much effort in it. Result: I didn't sport at all for years and my sofa assumed the shape of my (big) bottom.
It's true that now I'm a bit different person, I think, because I introduced exercise in my life but until today the skepticism towards Pilates remained ('cause... you know... I run. I lift weights. See above for the old-fashioned-girl-story.)
And instead... I'm amazed! Really!
The first two or three minutes of lesson I really heard my back, neck and knees make a sound that was something like SKRIK KROK SKRAK.
"Ops, maybe I needed a good stretching session, uh?!"
After fifteen minutes my muscles were screaming for more.
After thirty I was halfway bliss and pain.
After one hour, the stress of the day was lifted from my head and shoulders, I had a slight pain in my muscles (which meant they worked well, enough but not too much) and a really nice feeling of being all stretched from head to toe.
The fact is that is truly relaxing and stretching but it's also a very good work for your muscles: it's like you use your own body weight and shape to make them work (and work hard!). What's more healthy and smart than this?
Plus you have the feeling that they're really the kind of moves that make a woman's body look good.
Yep, I'm totally sold to Pilates!
It's true I'm an old style girl... but one very easy to buy!
Al
Ok, you bought me as well, I think my back will thank!:)
ReplyDeleteI bet that after one or two sessions you'll start to pray for Saint Pilates and won't need those massages anymore ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd here I thought Pilates was just some kind of very light work out, like those courses for the seniors of those who have had a car accident XD I'll have to change my mind! Anyways, I've been going to the gym for 2 months now and I still haven't lost a pound è_é
ReplyDeleteAntonella
Pssssst I'll tell you a secret: my abs and butt still (a bit) hurt! It's superpower!! I can't wait for next lesson, I really suggest it...
ReplyDeleteIf you don't diet you're not going to lose weight, but if you sport well for three times a week in a few months you'll see a total change in your body shape, believe me ;-)
